Determining Resource Needs

Successful lifestyle change frequently requires time, cooperation, equipment and other resources. You and your mentoring partner should discuss the following questions to identify resources needs:

  • What time commitment is needed to achieve this goal?

  • Is there a way to meet the goal in a more time-efficient manner?

  • If some activities need to be eliminated, what should they be?

  • Is there a regular time slot available?

  • How can the activity best be scheduled into the day-to-day mix?

  • Whose permission is needed to take the time and resources necessary to achieve this goal?

  • Who could help take care of work or family responsibilities?

  • What equipment is needed?

  • What access to people or places is needed?

  • What expertise is needed?

  • What transportation is needed?

  • What mental barriers must be overcome?
